This book is character driven, heavy on the dialogue, and full of romance and betrayal. We also have the perspective of Corrick, the King’s Justice, who uses violence and fear to control those who attempt to smuggle and sell the cure.

We follow Tessa, an apothecary apprentice who steals and distributs a cure for the sickless plaguing Kandala.

I didn’t see all the plot twists coming, and this book really took me by surprise. But the pacing is so fast that you can’t help but tell yourself ‘just one more chapter’ and then end up reading ten more. I managed to read Defy the Night in two sittings, which is impressive for me given that its not a short book. You can also find HalfWildBooks on Instagram, Goodreads, and Twitter for more bookish content.ĭefy the Night is action packed and full of twists and turns that left my head spinning, I was hooked from page one.
